Promise Of Eve - a dramatic feature

OFFICIAL SELECTION AND FEATURE SCRIPT FINALIST AWARD —
LADY FILMMAKERS 15th FESTIVAL, BEVERLY HILLS, CA

Logline:  When her child she thought dead is actually alive, a former coder in witness protection navigates New York’s cyber-underworld and enlists the aid of her rogue AI creation to confront the child’s father, government duplicity and take back her life in this dramatic feature.

Comps: Think the essence of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and the tension of “A Quiet Place” in this drama about reclaiming family set within the dark world of zeroes and ones.

Why I Wrote This: I’ve always loved Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey.” However, as a woman, I felt a bit left out of its narrative structure. That’s when I found Maureen Murdock’s The Heroine’s Journey. Murdock’s diagrams have inspired PROMISE OF EVE and its strong female protagonist who subverts the trope of the male-dominated digital space, as her right and left brain work in unison to survive and ultimately thrive. Poems by Emily Dickinson weave throughout the story, and inform our protagonist and the intensely private place she inhabits—the “landscape of spirit” and “undiscovered continent” that Dickinson so eloquently and enigmatically penned.
