Kathleen Caprario's creative practice includes painting, social practice and collaboration. Her work evolves from the question, “how am I shaped by my environment?" and seeks to reconnect personal and cultural identity with the land, and the intersection between physical place, cultural space and personal experience.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: I respectfully acknowledge the land that my work was inspired by, enabled by and created on, here in Eugene/Springfield, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. I also offer gratitude to the original stewards, the Siouan People of the Monacan and Manahoac tribes of the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountain regions of Virginia where I was in residence at the Viginia Center for the Creative Arts, and that for thousands of years the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations, Anishinaabe Nation, Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy nurtured me while in residence at the Ucross Foundation, Wyoming.
